Government nets Rs 1.1 lakh crore from GST in January

Goods and services tax (GST) collection has crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore-mark for the third month in a row in January on the back of anti-evasion steps taken by tax officers. This is second time since introduction of GST in July 2017 that the monthly revenues have crossed Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The GST collection is in line with the target set by Revenue Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey after a high-level meeting with senior tax officials earlier this month.

Coronavirus outbreak: Air India flight evacuating 324 Indians from China's Wuhan lands in Delhi

Air India's jumbo B747 plane, evacuating 324 Indian nationals from the coronavirus-hit Wuhan in China, landed here on Saturday morning, officials said. The plane reached Delhi around 7.30 am, they said. "With 324 passengers, special flight has taken off for India from Wuhan. It may reach Delhi at 7.30am," said an Air India spokesperson at 1.19 am on Saturday.

Coronavirus outbreak: WHO declares 'global emergency' as death toll rises to 213 in China

The death toll in China's novel coronavirus outbreak has climbed to 213 with the number of cases totalling to 9,692, China's national authorities announced on Friday. According to official media reports, Hubei province -- the epicenter of the outbreak, reported 5,806 confirmed cases, including 204 deaths. A total of 213 people have died of the disease as of Thursday, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus outbreak situation as a 'global emergency'.
